Racism and Bigotry

What have we really accomplished since the days that Martin Luther King Jr said he had a dream? have we truly learned to live alongside each other? or rather, have we simply changed the focus of our racism and bigotry? Is it not true that now, not only in America, but in every "civilized", "modern" country, the population look down on immigrants, both legal and illegal, with scorn, pity and hate? and this is evidenced by the bias in British schools against Muslim girls and women wearing their traditional head coverings, for reasons that can be easily dismissed, or the announced building of a wall between the US and Mexico, or the suspicion of the Venezuelan people against Colombians in their land, treating all of them as potential paramilitary, or drug traffickers.

As the world is an ever shrinking place, and the effects of globalization carry people from one country to another, and trade and commerce force families to move, and war in the middle east creates an unending flow of refugees, we should probably reflect once again on the words of Martin Luther King Jr. and see if we have really learned what he wanted to teach us, if we have come any closer to fulfilling his dream, or if instead, we have stayed on the same spot, but changed the focus of our hate, racism and bigotry.
